I think we all feel a shared loss in the passing of John McCain. With the possible exception of President Trump who “doesn’t like heroes who are captured” (perhaps he doesn’t like them dying either), I think all of us recognize McCain as a man of great courage while being an imperfect messenger. There was a time in this country when he would have been one giant among many. Now we see the passing of one of the few giants in a political world of pygmies.

This past week, we had the guilty verdict in the Manafort trial and the guilty plea by Michael Cohen. To listen to our President, he hardly knew Manafort and Cohen, his trusted replacement for Roy Cohn (of Joe McCarthy and the mob fame), was someone we shouldn’t trust. I guess he knows. And to add to the cacophony, we have the always-reliable, Rudy Giuliani, weighing in from Scotland that none of this matters because, even if the President ordered payoffs and had his people meet with the Russians (all of which was previously denied), it is not illegal. I keep wondering if I am the only person who thinks that Giuliani reminds me of a guy who looks like he knows what he is selling you doesn’t work.

Also last week, we had Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana introduce the word “butthead” into the political lexicon. I could swear I thought he was referring to the cranial placement of Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham with the President. I guess if you were trounced early in the Republican field by Trump, you have more ground to make up to become part of his inner circle. I would point out to these gentlemen that, at the rate Trump’s advisors are heading to jail, there will be room at the table for them very soon.

Finally, Omarosa continues to amuse everyone – well, everyone but the President. I can’t wait for her audio book with all of the tapes. I guess when Trump warned early that he might have tapes, he knew what he was talking about. Too bad for him they weren’t his.
