It is hard to keep up with all that is happening and the various characters who are responsible for the future of our country and, perhaps, the world. The President has the advantage of being consistent. He rarely makes sense and his spontaneous utterances and tweets have replaced vetted and considered policy statements. I do agree it is more entertaining at one level, but unfortunately, this is not a game. We have abandoned a nuclear treaty with Russia, tried to undo the Iranian agreement even though, despite their bad behavior, they haven’t violated the treaty. The rest of the world looks at us with wonder.
But we now see Kim Jong Um and Donald Trump pursuing the Nobel Peace Prize. Obviously, satire is dead. And while all this is going on, the Mueller report is due shortly. I can already see the competition between Lindsay Graham and Rand Paul in their race to be the defender of Donald Trump. Also, as the disapproval resolution on the “Emergency” order of the President comes before Congress, the only thing missing will be watching Paul Ryan, that principled former Speaker, turn himself into a pretzel defending Trump. The conservatives would have tried to impeach Obama if he had tried this, especially the part about stealing money from the Pentagon to build this silly wall.
I am enjoying Nancy Pelosi twisting Trump’s tail. I once thought her time had come and gone; boy was I wrong. She has shamed the Republicans who claim to care about the role of Congress by showing how you handle a bully. While Trump is working on a nickname for her, perhaps the Special Counsel’s report will be released. I am sure that Rudy Giuliani will crawl out from under his rock soon to point out that trying to get sanctions lifted so the bank that was to finance the Moscow Trump Tower isn’t actually a crime.
Finally, my best guess on the real relationship between Trump and the Russians is that it was just about money. With him it always is. He is the kind of guy who says, “If you are so smart why aren’t you rich?” I would answer that with the query, “If you are so rich, why aren’t you smart?”
Well!!! I love this post. You are so right on! Thank you for this.
Also, we will send a $1,000 check for the April event.
Many hugs, my dear friend.
Yes, let’s hope to get out of this Presidency with a some sort of a Democracy.
Love
