Today, the President said wearing masks would be a good idea. It only took 140,000 deaths for him to figure out that he might want to come down in the side of the obvious. It was a little like acknowledging that smoking is bad for your health.
It should be noted that back in March, with a shortage of PPE equipment, there was concern that masks might not be available for health care workers. Soon, however, it was clear that face coverings would reduce the spread of the virus and that there was a need to reinforce the message.
Alas, our hapless leader foundered on the issue. He claimed the early concern with supply showed why he shouldn’t listen to the CDC. He said it was a sign of being “politically correct” and made fun of Joe Biden for wearing one.
I guess we should be relieved that he finally stopped raising questions about the obvious. Perhaps if he had listened to those who were not just telling him what he wants to hear we would be in better shape as a country. I guess having his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, manning the barricades has been almost as successful as Jared’s Mideast peace plan.
But, hey, at least Jared’s family business got bailed out by Arab government money (instead of the Russians) for his foolish decision to buy the building on Madison Avenue that threatened the family business. Maybe he got the advice from his father-in-law who overpaid for the Plaza Hotel.
Nice to have a couple of crack business minds handling this crisis. Who knows how bad things would be without them.
Thank you!
