Well, now that we are entering our third week of the twilight zone, it is even clearer than ever that Washington is detached from reality.

I understand that elected Republicans do not want to be denounced by the President who still has the support of his base voters. They also know he is willing to do this without regard to past support or future damage.

It does seem, however, that the situation is getting worse. Lack of coordination on dealing with Covid, aside, think of the regular people throughout our country who handled our elections so professionally under dire circumstances. They are being threatened, literally, by some of the kooks who hang on every word of Trump’s tweets and feel compelled to act on them. It means these people who never ran for office have their lives, and those of their families, in danger because of the frailties of Trump’s psyche.

That is why Republicans must stand up to him now. Failing to do so gives credence to his lies which endangers the lives of these hard-working people.

Of course, between the President, his lame sons and the sewer dweller, Rudy Giuliani, we should expect nothing else. Can’t someone make these assorted grifters and liars go away?  Surely there are many decent Republicans who see this. The door is closing on the time where they will not be viewed as complicit. This must be what it felt like during the McCarthy era when lives were destroyed, and few people had the courage to speak up. Let’s not pass that way again.
