As we enter the last week of this Congress, the games continue. The Senate avoided any Covid relief after the Cares Act last summer despite the need. Now many of them are either showing concern and the desire to approve the $2,000 payment advocated by Trump, or they have suddenly discovered a new concern about the deficit. This is the same concern they break out whenever the Democrats win the Presidency, and mysteriously forget when the Republicans win.
Democrats, meanwhile, instead of using this as an opportunity to cool the rhetoric and offer McConnell a break until the new Congress and a more fulsome Covid bill by ignoring the President, couldn’t wait to add more political pressure on the Republicans by sending the $2,000 bill out to the Senate. Now, McConnell hopes to kill it all by adding an Election Fraud Commission and a repeal of the liability protection for social media companies from third party uses of their platforms.
It is past time for someone to get smart. The Democrats should welcome a properly structured Commission to dispel the myth of widespread election fraud and suspending the liability protection for one year might make social media companies come up with a better way to keep their businesses from destroying lives.
I realize such ideas are heresy to both sides, but wouldn’t it be nice for a change to have them do something that was a start in the right direction? Maybe lightening will strike, but I don’t see any Ben Franklin’s around with their keys and kites, do you?
Allan:
I totally agree 100% with you on this one. The Dems are just stuck in their old rabbit hole but should get out of it and vote for it. But they wont.
Happy New Year!! And where are you?
