Oh, goody. Just as we finally get rid of Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani from our daily lives, who slithers back in front of the cameras?  The noxious former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich.

For those of you who may have forgotten, Gingrich became Speaker in 1995 and famously boasted about passing legislation with only Republican votes. Along with his Whip, Tom Delay, he took a system that was becoming increasingly partisan and put in on warp speed. He led the impeachment of Bill Clinton who was sexually involved with an intern, while at the same time having an affair with his aide, Calista, who ultimately became his third wife. His ethics violation led to a $300,000 fine, and this was by a Republican House. He resigned in 1999 in relative disgrace, popped up again thanks to Fox News, and then ran for President in 2012. Finally, by the grace of Trump, his wife, the aforementioned Calista, became Ambassador to the Holy See and Newt followed her.

Now he is back in full throat and appearing on Laura Ingram to attack the performance of Speaker Pelosi, Fox’s favorite target.

Now, it seems to me, if you had a job, did it so poorly that you resigned in disgrace, and paid fines for ethics violations, you might find someone in a different job to criticize. It would be like Trump attacking Biden for being nasty.

But, I guess old Newt needs to be relevant again. It is rather stunning that he is the future face of the Republicans. Or maybe he just showed up to mentor Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz on how to really screw things up. Actually, Newt, they are doing a fine job without you.
