I think all of the handwringers and bed wetters need to relax. It appears that we will have an infrastructure bill that is done with Republicans. This should be seen as a touchstone for Republicans who do not suffer from Trump mania. It is possible to accomplish something without demonizing your opponents. It looks like something from the time when Biden was in the Senate.
Next will come the “Human Infrastructure” bill and by this fall both should be law and we will see around $4-5 trillion pumped into a growing economy. It will truly make life better for millions of Americans as well as lift Democratic hopes for the midterms.
It is important to recognize that the only thing holding us back as a nation now is Covid. Vaccination will overcome this, but we need to reject the nonsense of the know nothing caucus that is attempting to dominate the Republican Party with Trump at the front of that parade.
I am willing to give Trump credit for accelerating the vaccine development. I also give him credit for the thousands dead who didn’t have to be because of his ignorant intransigence and singular focus on himself. Oh, and he also deserves credit for inciting an attack on democracy that culminated on January 6 but continues on today with his encouragement.
A friend wrote that he did not agree with my previous blog. He didn’t think this represented the “end of days.” I don’t either but I do think that if the Jim Jordons and Marjorie Taylor Greenes have their way our Republic will never be the same.
