Am I the only one who has noticed that the various Congressional committees, chaired by Democrats, are planning to investigate what happened to create the chaos  in the withdrawal from Afghanistan by a Democratic President?  I happen to believe this is appropriate. Perhaps we really are moving in the direction of Congress doing its job and not just doing politics.

I do hope we can ignore the pious utterances of the Cruz-Cotton-Hawley aspiring Presidential chorus.  They have nothing to add to the issue and I did notice that Rick Scott wants to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Biden from office. Let’s recall that it was the same Senator Scott who was part of the group of Senators who challenged the electoral college vote after the reconvening of the Congress on January 6 when the insurrectionists had left the Capitol.

We are in a strange place right now. I can only hope that the passage of the infrastructure bill in the Senate is a harbinger of a time when everything is not a zero sum game.

Meanwhile, Senator Jerry Moran, who helped shape the bill, has decided to vote against it. I guess, like John Kerry famously said in 2004, “I was for it before I was against it.”  Actually, he was worried some Trump acolyte might run in the primary. He and Marco Rubio, once seen as serious people, have traded their souls to avoid the bad grace of Trump. I think every day someone should ask them if they think the election was stolen from Trump. Only then will they recognize the Faustian bargain  they have made.
