Well, now that we have survived the midterm elections, it seems appropriate to view the wreckage.
First, we should remember that 16 billion dollars was spent on these campaigns. Yes, that is billion with a “B.” Next, we should see that, for all that money spent, there will either be a one seat pickup by the Dems or it will remain 50-50.
Now the House will probably change hands but remember that the Democrats had a five-vote margin, and the Republicans will be lucky to get that. I do think that Kevin McCarthy will not be able to control his caucus the way Nancy Pelosi did, and his term will be a chaotic mess.
And, on top of this, Trump has announced that he is running again for President. On this point, two observations:
- Anyone who thought that this was not going to happen wasn’t paying attention. How could anyone imagine Trump passing the spotlight to anyone else?
- The failure to embrace Trump by many elected and establishment Republicans is meaningless. They are as good a foil for Trump as the Democrats. And, as we have seen, if they think he might win they will all be back in line.
I must say, as I watched Trump’s rambling during his announcement from Mar-A-Lago, I knew that we have a man and his followers who have re-entered the Twilight Zone. You could almost hear the eerie music… where is Rod Serling when we need him?

This article gave me hope for the future. Have felt very hopeless lately, just like this describes. Do you follow Michael Moore? I think he’s interesting.
