It seems that it takes a national catastrophe to get certain politicians to behave sanely. Then, given their normal behavior they try to portray themselves as statesmen. It is as if their prior behavior never happened.
This came to mind as we watched Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the House, actually allow members of the House to vote on whether to keep the government in which they all serve open. Maybe he belongs on Mount Rushmore next to Mike Pence who (for once) ignored Trump and actually followed the law, which is what his current dismal campaign for President is based upon.
Really folks, is t this the minimum we should expect from our leaders?
On another note, I wonder if some of the Trump magic will diminish when the public learns how much he exaggerated his wealth. It would be fitting if the self-proclaimed billionaire actually starts to lose some of his followers when they see how much he inflated his assets. Considering every other flaw he has demonstrated in his life, this too will pass. But it would be a rich (pun intended) way for him to lose his followers.
