For those of you who read my musings, you know that I have felt for some time that the Democratic Party would be better off if President Biden chose not to run again. Clearly, he has not followed my advice. So, we find ourselves in the situation where the choice will be Joe Biden or Donald Trump.
For the next year, I believe the Biden campaign needs unrelenting focus on the truly frightening aspects of another Trump Presidency. To every group – be they Arab Americans or African Americans or Hispanics or Jews or young people… Trump has made it very clear that he has plans that will seriously undermine the ability of people who are not in the majority in this country to be able to enjoy life in the way that we have come to expect as Americans. There is nothing left to the imagination as Trump continues to rant and lay out his plans for another term. He will not be surrounded by people who have an interest in policy or believe in the basic guardrails of democracy. For proof, think about when then-President Trump made his last efforts at the end of his Presidency to overturn the election. There is no reason to believe that his mentality has gotten anything except worse.
Trump has literally convinced a significant portion of one of the major political parties that an election that was not stolen, was stolen. That alone should scare all of us. Therefore, it is by my sincere hope that President Biden and his team focus less on “Bidenomics” or on the accomplishments of this administration (many though they may be) and recognize the fact that, unless enough Americans are afraid of another Trump Presidency, we have a very serious chance of seeing Trump back in the Oval Office.
The ramifications of that are too chilling to contemplate.
