Well, it looks like we will have, to borrow a phrase from Richard Nixon, Ron DeSantis to kick around for a while longer. His second place finish in Iowa, 30 points behind Trump, demonstrated that the more people saw of DeSantis, the less they liked him.

One silver lining is that, finally, Vivek Rameswamy will disappear to a whacko news network to spew his unintelligible nonsense and those of us who don’t tune in will be spared.

It is still troubling to me that Trump, with his lies about the 2020 election, efforts resulting in January 6th, his indictments, his guilty verdict in a sexual assault, and various threats in Hitlerian language, is still seen by many elected Republicans as fit to be President. He may have captivated the base of the party, but remember, there were Republican leaders who didn’t support Barry Goldwater in 1964 and Democratic leaders who shunned George McGovern in 1972 because both were seen as too extreme in their views. Neither was indicted, denied elections nor ran on a platform of retribution.

I will be watching to see which other craven office holders who have been personally attacked by Trump roll out their endorsements.

It is one thing to support the leader of your party. It is quite another to support someone who is the leader of the party that is his and not the one you signed up for.

We know politics makes strange bedfellows, but you need to get out of bed when the house is on fire.
