Just when we had finally forgotten the self-righteous James Comey, along comes Robert Hur. As Special Prosecutor looking into Biden’s possession of classified material, he concluded that there should be no prosecution. Unfortunately, he explained his decision by referring to Biden’s memory lapses during their interview in October. In reviewing his findings, it is almost as if Biden were younger with a sharper memory, the prosecutorial decision may have been different.

I have watched the uproar by Democrats who assume Hur was acting out of political malice. There is no evidence that that is true. I would rather attribute it to the Comey-esque smugness that so many highly credentialed lawyers demonstrate when given a national platform.

That does not make it less damaging to the Biden campaign. The problem is the obvious one:  Biden’s age and appearance. And, anyone who thinks this report is not damaging politically, needs to hand in their pundit card.

A number of us over the past few years have felt that President Biden has been a good President.  However, to try for a second term at his age is not a good idea. It is even more of a problem with Trump as the Republican nominee. Losing this election is about a whole lot more than Joe Biden’s feelings that he deserves another term. He may deserve one, but it is looking increasingly likely that he may not get one. And the consequences of that happening will not produce good memories for any of us.
