After all this time, we finally get to see Trump go on trial. Many people don’t like this case, which involves paying hush money to an adult film actress whom he paid for sex.  In typical Trump fashion, he wanted to deduct payments to her as a business expense. So, he had his then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, pay the woman and he then sent money called “legal fees” to reimburse Cohen. Cohen went to jail and, of course, Trump denies everything.

Well, we will see if the prosecutor, Alvin Bragg, can present a case that is compelling. Unlike federal court, this is in state court and the media will be there. So will Trump. He will bellow and scream about how he is being abused by the system… maybe he will also be convicted. And, a felony conviction may help raise money from the MAGA crowd, but it will not help with others.

Keep an eye on which Republican elected officials try to discount the trial and the verdict if it finds Trump guilty. When you decide, because the trial and result aren’t to your liking, you may dismiss it as not valid (as Senator JD Vance did recently), it does show how craven the defenders of Trump have become.

Perhaps watching things unfold in real time will resonate with the millions of conservatives who are not part of the QAnon crowd. If so, perhaps there is hope.
