It is time to turn our eyes to what happened in Kansas City after the Super Bowl parade.  Suffice it to say if guns were not so available, there wouldn’t be anything to talk about.  Instead, we have allowed a culture of gun violence to become so common that we shake our heads, offer thoughts and prayers, and move on.  As a society, we have turned a blind eye to the cost of unlimited access to guns.

Let me point out one fact. Portugal is a country of around 10 million people. That is about one thirty-fifth of the size of the United States. In 2020, there were 81 murders in Portugal. If you do the math, it is equivalent to around 3,000 murders in the US.

The primary difference is that in Portugal almost no one has a gun. They have immigrants, poverty, and other social ills. But almost no murders.

Any chance we will finally do something about it in the US?  If you never vote for someone who thinks things regarding guns are just dandy, maybe we can see some change. I for one, won’t support anyone who doesn’t see the cost to all of us. I invite you to join me.
