I know that sometimes it seems like doing things as they were done in the past in politics and government seems like a waste of time. Now, however, with the wars in Gaza and Ukraine on the precipice of change, it is time for the President to address the country about where things stand and what the choices are.

Biden’s State of the Union speech was a political one. He and his staff obviously felt the need to frame things the way he did.

Now, something else is needed. The country needs to hear directly from the President about his views on the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. What are the stakes?  The choices?  The possible end games for both? The role of the United States and how the outcomes will affect us must be outlined. The President is obliged to share his position on what action should be taken and calculate the cost of inaction (clearly a choice advocated by some).

This is what Presidents do in times like this.  I am hopeful that Biden will let us all know his perspective as the leader of our nation and of the free world.

I know his views will be questioned, but that comes with the territory. His spokesmen and Cabinet members are proxies from time to time; however, sometimes we need to hear directly from our President.

This is one of those times.
