Trump is making noises about testifying at his criminal trial. Of course, it won’t happen. It is just Trump being Trump. He makes any number of assertions on a daily basis that are untrue. He is a belligerent bully who famously cannot fire anyone in person. Yet, if the election were held today he would probably win.

It doesn’t speak well of our system if that result is currently probable. Perhaps the next few months will change the calculus, but we know that Trump won’t change. Perhaps that will keep him from winning in the end.

One can only hope.
