There is an old saying, “if you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.”

Well, there is a lot of scratching going on in certain Republican circles these days. Since when was it not a problem to be convicted of 34 felonies?  I know the party line and, yes, it is probably true that most other criminals would not have been charged as Trump was. However, he was doing this while running for President and then kept it going after he was in office!

Now, we know that famous and rich people don’t face the same prosecutions that ordinary people do. When Trump had to close Trump University and pay a $25 million, fine there were no criminal actions for his fraud. When Bill Clinton admitted he lied under oath, he didn’t get sent to prison.

Numerous people have been charged with crimes, which only really mattered because of who they were. So, Trump is in the same place that others have been. The difference is that none of these people had a jury trial and been found guilty. Trump’s arrogance was founded on a lifetime of never having consequences for his behavior except paying some money.

To summarily dismiss the outcome of the trial is to render every criminal trial suspect. I can’t help but believe that a party that chooses to excuse a convicted felon because they don’t like the charges brought will ultimately pay a price when Americans vote. I may be wrong, but, meanwhile, they sure are doing a lot of scratching.
