Two years ago, I wrote an open piece in Newsweek urging President Biden to announce he would not seek re-election. My argument then was unfortunately prescient. While the Democrats did much better than expected in the 2022 midterms, it was not because of the President, but because of the Dobbs decision.

Like many Americans, I watched the debate last Thursday night between our presumptive Democrat and Republican nominees, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, respectively. No surprise, I was appalled by Trump as he lied and evaded with ease. After all, practice makes perfect.

That said, watching President Biden made me sad. His performance reinforced the idea that he is not up to four more years as President. He has done a good job, but elections are about the future, and he does not look like a person capable of leading us there.  Neither does Trump.  But, with the stakes so high, I hope President Biden will reconsider running.

I am not sure what having the New York Times agreeing with your analysis two years later means. But suffice it to say that those of us who admire the job and career of Joe Biden, agree it is time for him to agree to step aside.

A new Trump Presidency should frighten many Americans. And, to my friends at the Democratic National Committee, I remind you that the job of a political party is to win elections. No matter how painful it is.

Do your job.
