Well, it finally happened. President Biden has withdrawn his candidacy for re-election. While it would have made life easier for many if he had done so earlier, it was an act showing that he recognized the danger of another Trump Presidency that he could not stop.

It appears that VP Harris will be the nominee barring something extraordinary happening. In a period when extraordinary things have already happened, I would suspect we have used up our “extraordinary thing” quota.

The race has now radically changed. The 70 percent of Americans who didn’t want a Trump-Biden race have been listened to. Now, if we could just get Trump and the Republicans to listen, perhaps we could have a contest between two candidates who are likely to still have their wits about them at the end of the next term.
