With two weeks to go until the election, I am scared that Trump could win. As Ezra Klein wrote, it isn’t that Trump will be different this time around, but the people who deflected his most dangerous instincts are gone. They will be replaced by enablers who want to remain in his orbit no matter how bizarre it becomes.

I do think the Harris campaign needs to address younger voters who are struggling financially with the following message:

“I know you are struggling and some of our policies didn’t help. Some will, but it will take time for you to benefit from them. I understand and share your frustration. That is why I am focusing on you and your concerns. Together we can change the trajectory of your situation. The economy is strong, but not necessarily yet for you. That has to change, and together we can do this if we recognize that many in our community are struggling. We really need to work together to make our economy work for more people.”

Most people want to know they are being heard and that leaders will address their fears and disappointments. They also respect people who acknowledge that some things didn’t work out as many had hoped.

This direct appeal is necessary to bring back young men who have gravitated to Trump. I fear without a pivot like this that Harris could lose. I hope I am wrong.
