It seems inevitable that we will see the Trump Administration defy a court order. After all, Vance has already said that the courts cannot usurp Executive prerogatives.

As he and every other lawyer knows, under our Constitution, the courts exist to control and limit the power of the Executive and the Congress. Conservatives argue that the courts should not allow Executive or Congressional behavior that is not allowed by the Constitution.

Of course, we know that this Administration is not conservative, nor is it populist. It is rather an amalgamation of fearmongering and off-beat ideas about people and government. Vaccines are bad…. trans people are a threat… any acknowledgment that minorities have had less access is denied…. and any of our commitments as a nation are revocable upon the whim of this President.

We are losing scientists, doctors, and researchers as well as experienced policy people to the crackpot ideas of people who seek revenge and control.

There needs to be a resistance to this insanity. One hopes the courts will not only continue to act but will have a means of enforcing their decisions. If not, we will descend into a much darker place.
