Wouldn’t be ironic if the Jeffrey Epstein conspiracy theory is what breaks the Trump fever that has enabled all of his destruction? Of the 273 elected Republicans in the House and Senate, fewer than 10 have objected to his destroying foreign aid, undermining public broadcasting, embracing Vladimir Putin (for a while), withholding Congressionally appropriated funds, and increasing the national debt and the debt limit.
They have embraced masked government agents swooping into neighborhoods, not of gang members, but of long-standing immigrant communities, in the search of some who are not here legally. They have consented to defying court orders, publicly going after judges and, most recently, the firing of the daughter of someone the President dislikes. The casual cruelty and use of government for personal retribution is unprecedented and the level of personal financial gain that is being pursued with the power of government is truly astounding.
For those who feel they can escape this whirlwind, I would point out that history would guide one in the opposite direction.
So, perhaps, just as the leaders of the French Revolution eventually were dragged to the Place de la Concorde for their rendezvous with the guillotine, perhaps this conspiracy once embraced by Trump will end with his movement in shambles.
That would be something!
