It seems like it is time to write again now that we have survived Thanksgiving and must face what is ahead of us.  And, what a potpourri we have to look forward to.

  1. Impeachment.  While there appears to be no chance of Republicans breaking ranks, the continuing efforts to expand executive powers at the expense of Congressional oversight is alarming.  We all know how partisan things have become, however, even partisans need to recognize unacceptable behavior.  If they don’t, they will undoubtedly see it used against them in the future.  The case in point is the decision by Harry Reid to eliminate the filibuster on all judges other than the Supreme Court, was an invitation to do the same with the Supreme Court for Mitch McConnell.
  2. Democratic Primaries. It seems that the Bloomberg effort is predicated on no one coming out of the first four contests with consecutive victories.  If that turns out to be the case, we can look for his campaign to be active in every Congressional district for Super Tuesday and thereafter.  He has a story to tell about his life in business and government. He will promote his ability to beat Trump and govern with the resources no one else can approach.  He has a real chance to succeed.  As to my friend Deval Patrick, he needs to raise around $25 million, finish assembling a staff, and then finish in the top three in New Hampshire.  If he does, he can go to South Carolina and win assuming that, by then, Joe Biden is clearly not viable.  If Biden finishes 4th or 5th in Iowa, which I think he will, his campaign will lose the ability to raise money and I expect he will not make it beyond South Carolina, if that far.

In closing, I noticed the other day that Lindsay Graham said he would not read the transcripts from the impeachment depositions.  He was not interested since his head was already positioned in another location.  It reminded me of the old Groucho Marx line, “Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend.  Inside of a dog, it is too dark to read.”  The same can be said of Trump’s posterior where Lindsay seems to reside these days.
