I think we have found the Trumpian solution to pardons.  It has been speculated that the President will pardon all of his cronies, including himself, on his way out the door in January.  Apparently, his Attorney General will make part of that task moot.  He just took care of Trump’s initial NSC advisor, General Michael Flynn, who evidently spoke with his chums in the Russian government on how they would be able to deal with sanctions once they were in office.  Then he lied about it to the FBI as well as to Vice President Mike Pence.  He was fired by Trump, who asked then FBI Director, James Comey, to go easy on Flynn.  Ultimately, Flynn pled guilty, Comey was fired, and Trump moved on.

After Trump hounded poor Jeff Sessions back to Alabama from his post as Attorney General, he found the guy he had been looking for when he hired Sessions.  In his own words, he needed his own “Roy Cohn.”  Recall that Cohn was a notorious fixer in New York who first came to fame as a meaner and more vile version of his then-boss Joe McCarthy.   Cohn had been Trump’s father’s fixer as well as a mentor for the young Donald Trump.

His Roy Cohn came in the most unlikely shape and size:  Bill Barr.  Barr had been Attorney General under George H.W. Bush.  He was an establishment fixture and viewed by many as an appropriate choice for the job of Attorney General, not as Roy Cohn.  Turned out that Trump got it right for himself the second time.  Barr issued his version of the Mueller Report before it was released, thereby setting the narrative.  That would have been fine if the summary had been accurate. It wasn’t.  Since then he has intervened to lighten the sentence on Roger Stone, as well as dropping all charges on admitted liar, Michael Flynn.  Ever heard of a prosecutor telling a defendant who admitted to a felony to forget about it?

So, Trump has his Roy Cohn and Flynn has his get out of jail free card.  Who is next?  Maybe Roger Stone and/or Paul Manafort?  My only question is whether they have to drink the Clorox in order to get a pass.
