As I watched the President tell an Asian American reporter from CBS to “ask China” when she asked him why the numbers of tests and deaths were a competition, I wondered what the response would have been if the virus had begun in Israel.  And, then, let’s suppose a kippa wearing reporter had asked the same question, and Trump responded with, “ask Israel.”  Or, if a priest had asked the same question and the virus started in Italy, “ask the Pope.”  There would have been a strong response from both the Jewish and Catholic communities, respectively. This really wasn’t any different.  Bigotry comes in all shapes and sizes.

Meanwhile, yesterday Hugh Hewitt, conservative commentator fired the first shot in the “debates won’t be fair to Trump” soap opera.  This will come on the heels of the questioning of the number of deaths from COVID-19.  So essentially, we can blame China, discount the number of deaths in America and not debate, but hold rallies instead.  So much to look forward to.

It was nice to see the difference between Mitt Romney and Rand Paul.  Mitt zeroed in on facts while Rand tried once again to be Trump’s best friend.  Of course, Rand has been courting the anti-vaccination crowd for a while, so this was just getting us ready for why the government shouldn’t subject all of these children to autism or whatever nonsense will be spewed when we finally have a vaccine.

Finally, here in Missouri, we have a spike in cases and are becoming a new “hotspot” as our Governor opens the state and the legislature feverishly readies a ballot initiative to repeal the “Clean Missouri” reform amendment passed by the voters in 2018.  After all it limits how quickly they can become lobbyists.  It is nice to know that some things never change.  Pass the Clorox!
