As we mercifully come to the final hours of Trump’s presidency, I think he has a dilemma. Republicans in the Senate are torn whether to convict him or not. I assume they would rather not, but given his proclivities to behave as he wants, he may make it hard for them not to convict him.
All he really has left as President is to give out pardons. We know if he does this, which is the likely outcome, the recipients will be mostly odious and outrageous. Steve Bannon, the Trump family, Rudy Giuliani (in lieu of legal fees), and perhaps Steven Miller, Sidney Powell and the Pillow Man for good measure. I am sure Trump’s assorted grifter friends are charging for a final plea before he slinks away to his home in Florida.
So, if he gives these awful pardons (maybe even to himself), I think the Senate may convict. Since he never believes that what he does is wrong, it will be added to the list of the Grievance-Carrier-in-Chief as he begins the next chapter of a life that looks a lot less fun than he had planned.
Only thing left is the countdown
