It has been said that in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. I keep thinking about this as I watch the Missouri Republican primary for the US Senate seat to be vacated by Roy Blount in 2022.
First, we have the disgraced former Governor who resigned, rather than being impeached by a Republican legislator, for having violently abused his girlfriend who he threatened with pictures for her husband if she complained. A real beauty, as the former President would say.
Next, we have a trial lawyer who threatened Black Lives Matter protesters with an automatic weapon even though it was a peaceful protest. He is also running claiming to be more Trumpy than the former Governor.
So how to top this if the road to success is Trump’s endorsement? Well folks, Eric Schmidt, the Attorney General of Missouri, a state with the highest outbreak of Covid in the country, has filed suit to prevent St. Louis and Kansas City from enacting mask ordinances.
There are others pawing the dirt to get into this race as well. Perhaps one of them will call for arresting vaccinated people. After all, crazy seems to be the credential necessary for Trump’s endorsement which, after all of the losses the Loser in Chief helped bring about for Republicans, he is still their go-to guy.
Maybe in Republican dominated states only the primary matters. That is often true in Democratic states, as well. What is different is if you are unwilling to lie about the last election or Covid or both you can’t get the Loser on board. Kind of scary. Particularly if they ever get control of the government with this current group that thinks Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene are the ones to be afraid of.
Where is John McCain when we really need him?
We do need another John McCain badly. Thinks that are happening though out the US are scary.
