As we near the end of the year it is time to reflect on what we have learned.

We now know what Trump will do if he is elected. I caution anyone who is a potential target of white nationalists, antisemites, homophobes, etc., that these people are part of Trump’s base. If he wins and does what he says he will, do you really think his Justice Department will pursue the Proud Boys and their ilk when they and groups like them target minorities?   If so, you haven’t been listening to him.

On another note, we have learned that conservatives were right when they accused many universities of censoring and removing conservative voices from campuses. This flies in the face of the purpose of a university.  These same voices are now attacking Jews because of the actions of Israel in response to the terrorist horror of October 7 by Hamas. When university presidents cannot be unequivocal in rejecting speech that calls for genocide against Jews, or any group, they have lost their way.

Finally, I am very concerned that the country has not given Biden his due. However, I am at a loss as to how to reverse the downward trajectory of his job rating. When the consequences of his losing to Trump are so unthinkable, it seems like something needs to change.

We are on the brink of a catastrophe as a nation and the world is watching. Some with horror and some with glee. Let’s hope we can avoid this disaster before it is too late.
