In case anyone was wondering about how the vast majority of Republican Senators are going to handle Trump’s most controversial Cabinet nominees, the hearing for Pete Hegseth to be Secretary of Defense clarified things. We are to understand that any character issues are simply part of a media/Democratic smear campaign really aimed at Donald Trump. Any comments or writing about women or LGBT members of the military were actually a call for high standards of fitness. His drinking problem (also a smear) will be solved by his promise to stop drinking. And so on. It was enough to get Senator Joni Ernst, a combat veteran and rape victim, on board.

So, it looks like we may get a clean sweep of confirmations. After all, if this guy is OK for such a critical job, who could be worse?
