In case anyone is wondering why Trump endorsed Ken Paxton in the Texas Republican primary I believe I have the answer. Remember that most Republicans in the Senate who had been swallowing whatever Trump wanted, really like John Cornyn and urged Trump to endorse him or at least remain neutral. Obviously, their desire was ignored.

While some cling to the “birds of a feather” explanation (both Trump and Paxton have been indicted, impeached, and divorced in a rather public way), I believe it was far simpler.

Trump was told Paxton would win the runoff and he, quite naturally for him, wanted to claim credit regardless of the wishes of fellow Republicans. After all, if you aren’t viewed as a winner crafted by Trump, you are by his definition a loser.
