I think the great unraveling has begun. The President has been even more uneven in recent days. The war is on or off depending on the hour. The fund for victims is on or off depending on the day. The majority leader is not doing his job and the US Attorney in DC has dropped charges against the person who supposedly vandalized the reflecting pool. Even then, Trump attacked her and much as he did decades ago after the Central Park 5 were exonerated and continues to insist that he is right and the facts are wrong.

Ignoring facts has long been a Trump trait. What is different now is that he is losing control of the narrative. He is actually being challenged by a few elected (albeit lame duck) Republicans, and they have thwarted some of his efforts. Also, that pesky Iran just won’t understand that he needs them to listen to him. And, of course, his announcement of a deal between Hamas and Israel was followed the next day by bombing in Gaza by Israel.

So, I think we are seeing the beginning of the end of the domination by Trump. He still, as President, remains powerful, but reality has begun to sink in. Many Republicans running in November face problems as he continues to claim the economy is great, affordability a hoax issue by Democrats (sorry Communists), and that we have already won the war in Iran. He is ignoring the problem of depleted armaments supply which is good news to Russia and China. He is blaming everyone but himself as he smolders in his gold-plated cocoon. He does have Stephen Miller there to assure him all is well as their casual cruelty undermines all that used to represent American values.

I may be wrong, but I suspect the midterms will be a grand rebuke of Trump and Trumpism. It will be richly deserved.
